Cyberbullying And Social Media

Have you ever experienced cyberbullying? Just think- were you the victim or the bully? You might have cyberbullied someone without knowing. Anyone can get the cyberbullying “virus.” Cyberbullying is a serious issue that affects you and others based on individual’s choices. |
There are 5 forms of cyberbullying. The first one is harassment. When a bully sends offensive and malicious messages to an individual or a group, it can lead to physical harassment, and counts as cyber-stalking. The second form is flaming. Flaming is similar to harassment , refers to an online fight exchanged. An online fight is when a bully sends mean comments and when someone try’s to defend the victim. Flaming can be private or from direct message( DM’s). They also send inappropriate languages threw images. The third form is exclusion. Exclusion is the act of intentionally singling out the victim. It counts as leaving a person out from an online group, then subsequently leaving them out then putting malicious comments on the chat. For example, a person has requested to join a chat because they want to be cool, mean while in the chat the bully is saying malicious comments to a group, but the victim has been left out of the chat. Most people don’t know that the mean comments they send ( like your fat, your ugly, and etc;) can get to the victim.
59% of people have received mean text or direct messages ( DM’s). The forth form is outing. Outing is when a bully sends or posts personal and private information/private about someone publicly, a person is “outed” when their information has been disseminated through out the internet but can also go world wide like, the “ bro do you even internet?”, or grumpy cat videos. $8.4 billion dollars are used for one Social media add causes, hate, criticism , rude comments and it all leads to suicide because of these form. The 5th form is masquerading. Masquerading is a situation where a bully creates a fake identity to harass someone anonymously. The bully will impersonate someone else to harass the victim. In the movie, Cyberbully the girl is bullied by her best friend, her best friend pretends to be a guy from a different school and the girl ends up almost killing herself. The friend and the girl became friends and had no problems and the girl put an end to all the cyberbullying from the mean girl, that day at school she went up to the mean girl and told her to stop cyberbullying and being a mental bully.
A victim of a cyberbullying case can get bullied out side of the internet world of social media. Social media is the mirror of the internet world. There are more than 2 perspectives in a cyberbulling case, the victim, cyberbully, cyberpolice, teachers, parents, students, and other people on social media. The victim is prone to cyberstalking and being hacked anonymously. Sometimes, when cyberbulllied it's sometimes not recoverable. Cyberbulling can occur anywhere, and any time.
According to the Megan Meier foundation 25% of teens on social media reported having a experience resulting in a face to face confrontation with someone. 13% reported concern about having to go to school the next day. 11% received a text message from another student who intended to hurt their feelings. The popularity of having been bullied electronically was higher among females (22.1%) than male (10.8%) students. According to http://www.pewinternet.org 88% of social media- using teens have witnessed other people being cruel on social media. Since 2011, teen twitter use has grown significantly from 16% to 24% by teens, according to the national victimization survey data is weighted to represented the entire enrolled 9th -12th grade student population. It is estimated that about 2.2 million students experienced cyberbullying in 2011. Of the 9% of the students that reported being cyberbullied in the national crime victimization survey compared to 6.2% in 2001. Have you ever thought if the people around you have been cyberbullied?
What if you were the person that cyberbullied them? You wouldn't know because people are always on their phones, and no one ever actually interacts on threw text and social media. So put down your phone and go play outside tell your friends to. If I cyberbullied I would stop and be reflective then, I would apologize then try to become friends with them but no force them, that would be physical bullying.
The solutions are simple if people just make smart choices. Before I get to the suicidal thoughts, let talk about how to prevent having suicidal thoughts. Stay off of social media for a while and try to laugh. Watch a funny movie. Tell someone that you have been getting cyberbullied. To prevent suicidal thoughts call (800)273-8255 for help. Call your doctor but first tell someone. Take some anti depression medicine, if it gets out of hand. Don't keep a secret tell someone!!!!!!

Cyberbullying can hurt there are lots of victims, forms, and solutions to it. Next time you are one social media think, is it True, is it Helpful, is it Inspiring, is it Necessary, is it Kind (T.H.I.N.K.). Think could you be hurting someone?
